50 people evacuated after chemical released in North Austin, fire officials say


About 50 people were evacuated in North Austin after a chemical spill was reported Wednesday morning in the 4100 block of Duval Road.

A hazardous materials crew from the Austin Fire Department responded around 11 a.m., fire officials said.

The chemical released was less than 10 grams of sodium borohydride, which health experts say can cause irritation to skin and the eyes. Read more.
