(Reuters) – At least five nuclear reactors operated by France’s EDF might be affected by welding anomalies under investigation, the head of the French nuclear regulator was quoted as saying on Thursday.
EDF said on Tuesday it had found problems with weldings on the steam generators of some existing reactors.
Reactor closures, if they were to happen, would impact power generation in France, which depends heavily on nuclear power, and, potentially in European countries that import electricity from France.
France has the world’s second-largest fleet of nuclear reactors behind the United States.
