Traces of explosives have been detected on some remains of the victims of EgyptAir 804, Egyptian investigators said on Thursday, the first official indication the flight that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea in May was taken down deliberately.

Egypt’s Civil Aviation Ministry said the evidence has been turned over to the nation’s public prosecutor, who will launch a criminal probe into the crash that killed all 66 people on the plane as it made as it made its way to Cairo from Paris.
