Iraq’s army hit back yesterday at claims that it helped coalition jets to carry out a raid that killed more than 100 civilians, accusing Islamic State of provoking the airstrikes and using truck bombs against human shields.

The US-led coalition has faced uproar over the number of civilian casualties resulting from the attack on west Mosul and in particular an airstrike on March 17 which killed scores, perhaps hundreds, of civilians crammed into a basement for shelter. Continue reading.
