(KRCG) – Missouri Department of Natural Resources officials say hundreds of containers containing pesticides and other chemicals have made their way into the Missouri River.

Officials have found over 740 containers and believe most of the containers have worked their way downstream from Nebraska and Iowa following months of record flooding this summer.

The “orphaned containers” vary in size, ranging from small buckets to half-a-million-gallon tanks. They can be carrying chemicals such as ammonia, diesel fuel, pesticides or other farm chemicals.
