Deadly blast at chemical plant in Tarragona, Spain


(BBC) – Last night, an explosion at the Industrias Químicas del Óxido de Etileno, a chemical plant located in La Canonja municipality, in Spain’s autonomous Catalonia region, has killed at least one person and injured another eight.

Though officials said it was probably sparked by a chemical accident, Catalan leader Quim Torra later said no toxic substances had been released.

At least two of the injured people had serious burns, Catalonia’s civil protection service said and rescuers are still searching for the missing person, a plant employee.
