Iran nuclear deal: European powers trigger dispute mechanism


(BBC) – France, Germany and the UK triggered a dispute mechanism under the 2015 nuclear deal on Tuesday, amounting to a formal accusation against Tehran of violating its terms and could lead to the reinstatement of United Nations sanctions lifted under the accord.

Iran, which denies its nuclear program is aimed at building a bomb, has accused the Europeans of abusing the process.

Russia, another signatory to the pact, also criticised the Europeans’ move, saying the activation of the mechanism had no grounds and could make a return to implementation of the deal impossible.
